Giving Designers an Experience to Love

Held in the picturesque Byron Bay, the Love of Design Summit brought more than 70 of the country’s top design professionals, including employees, partners and leading industry figures, together under the one roof to discuss the critically important topic of the future of Australian housing.

Challenge

Following the success of its inaugural 2024 Summit in Hobart, Australia’s leading home builder, Metricon challenged us to continue to raise the bar for their invite-only Design event, through partnering with industry leaders to expand the content covered in this 4-day program.

Approach

We ensured a seamless, engaging and inspiring experience throughout, overseeing agenda development, speaker engagement, stage design, AV, registration, venue sourcing and liaison.

To deliver a diverse program including themes of sustainability and wellness, juxtaposed with technology and affordability, The Bite Project team worked in close collaboration with Metricon to:

  • Open with a sunset cocktail event at The Beach Byron Bay featuring live piano and silk dancers.

  • Ideate, curate and manage morning yoga and rainforest walks to energise attendees and set them up for the day ahead.

  • Design a varied conference program, which featured 12.5 hours of content and 13 speakers–12 people and one humanoid–spanning futurists, architects and interior designers, an immersive VR experience, and four boutique offsite house tours.

  • Bring to life the latest offering from sponsors Colourbond, Reece, James Hardie and Dulux in an immersive materials gallery.

  • Host a further two offsite dinners, including at chef Shannon Bennett’s The Belongil Bistro, where he and designer Lee Brennan discussed the venue’s approach to architecture and design.

  • Engage a number of media partnerships, handle all photography and videography, resulting in 3TB of video captured across the four days.

Outcome

The Summit was an immense success overall, with 98% of attendees reporting that it exceeded expectations, and discussions around the 2028 event have already commenced.

Attendees noted Metricon’s investment in bringing people together to do something impactful was particularly inspiring, as was–from AI and humanoids to the multi-generational home–the diversity of conversation and energy in the room as peoples’ collective passions shone through.

Testimonial

It was incredibly inspiring. Well organised and incredibly applicable. The speakers were amazing!
